When going out to eat, vegetarian cuisine is not on the top of my list. Going for a falafel or hummus is vegetarian, but in the sense that only vegetarians eat at the restaurants serving that kind of food. Meat eaters and vegetarians alike love to eat falafel and hummus for example. I never thought I would eat at a vegan and vegetarian restaurant by choice ever, but I have been proved wrong. My friend Omer said this place called Buddha Burger was good and told me to try it. So tonight I went with him to investigate it further to see if it was great cuisine. They have many different vegetarian dishes that even an omnivore such as myself would and will enjoy no doubt. My friend got the vegetarian shnitzel with salad and mashed potatoes, I ordered the classic veggie cheeseburger with roasted potatoes, and we shared a Vegan Shwarma for the heck of it. The Veggie Burger looked tasted fantastic. I could taste all of the lentils and other legumes in the veggie burger itself. It came with lettuce, tomato, special sauce, and vegan cheese. Yes I tried vegan cheese. The vegan cheese tasted like soy Kraft singles slices. but did not melt like processed sliced cheese. The Schnitzel was good, but not my cup of tea. I does taste great, but real shnitzel is what I yearn for. It had the crispy texture of the fried batter, but the inside had the taste of mushrooms, moist bread, and tofu. It was not bad dipped in ketchup. The vegan shwarma was made out of seitan, which is called wheat gluten. It was chopped just like the shwarma is sliced. It has the same spice mixture as well. Served in a whole wheat tortilla with carrots and lettuce it was a pleasant change from the typical shwarma experience which is usually chicken, turkey, or lamb. Located on Yehuda HaLevy St in Tel Aviv, with another location on Ibn Gvirol St, Buddha Burger is a delicious and health conscious choice for lunch or dinner. It was a great break from the normal dining out option for me and it should be a great break for you as well. I highly recommend it if you are a vegan, vegetarian, or like interesting food. Enjoy!
